IN THE FULCRUM OF OUR DREAMS PHOTOGRAPHS

Digital C-type prints from c-41 negative, various dimensions, 2010.

“Condemned in our understanding we would not wake from such a dream, for in its fiction we would be lost to its intolerable reality.”

In the Fulcrum of Our Dreams represents the pivotal point in a life or a dream when there is a metaphysical realization, when fiction becomes nonfiction or a dream a nightmare. It is the epiphany following the acquisition of knowledge which momentarily precedes despair as the catastrophic implications of the discovery become evident. Suggesting an ambiguous metaphysical narrative in which an unknown protagonist behind the lens plays the central character, the photographs attempt to create fiction out of documentary imagery, informed by the perceived psychological effect of an apocalyptic future. The resultant picture sequence is allegorical of an unsuccessful journey to unlearn the eventual conclusion of finite human existence, knowing that throughout Mankind’s intellectual development we continue to devise ever more instantaneous methods of complete annihilation.
